Damages are currently estimated at about $10 million. In addition to downed trees and power lines, the Tip-A-Few restaurant's roof was extensively damaged. The Kirby Grill, 206 Washington and The Office Supply Center also received extensive roof damage.
The portable band shell commonly seen at the Waterfront Stadium was swept into the river, along with equipment and prizes to be used by the fishing tournament which was in town when the storm hit. Six large trees in Grand Haven's Central Park were lost. A number of motor homes and camp trailers at the Grand Haven State Park were overturned by the wind, and many pop-up campers and tents were simply blown away. At Grand Isle Marina, a 20-foot hole was punched in the wall & roof, and the sign for the marina and Charlie Marlin's Restaurant was carried away by the wind. The Wharf Marina suffered over $500,000 in damages, including the total loss of one of its two storage buildings, which was totally blown away. Aluminum siding from the building was found draped "like laundry on a clothesline" over nearby power lines. The main building which houses the offices, store, and boat repair facilities has been condemned and will have to be completely torn down and rebuilt, after its roof was lifted and dropped back into place by the winds. Several boat docks and the gas docks were also destroyed. Our friend Mary Zitta has a page with dramatic photos of the damage in Grand Haven [Link Removed]
